The 2023 harvest is now sold out. The 2024 harvest is likely to arrive in May.

Hachiju Hachiya means “eighty-eight nights.” It refers to the eighty-eighth day after the first day of spring in the traditional Japanese calendar, which is said to be the best time to harvest tea. Shincha, which means “new tea,” is produced from the first harvest of Sencha tea plants in the spring, and is only available in very limited quantities.

Cups Per Package

This loose leaf tea is packaged by hand in a resealable kraft bag. Our 2 oz. kraft bag makes 10 to 15 cups of tea.

Ingredients

Green tea (Origin: Shizuoka, Japan)

Tasting Notes

Mild and sweet, with notes of umami, grass, snap pea, asparagus, eucalyptus, and fresh rain.

How To Brew Shincha

Use 2 teaspoons (5 grams) of tea per 10 oz. water. Heat water until lightly steaming, not boiling (approximately 175 degrees). Steep for 30 to 60 seconds.

Shincha Caffeine Content

Green tea is low in caffeine.

    Shincha Benefits

Green tea boosts energy, enhances mood, and helps with focus.

    More About Shincha

We only carry a small amount of this special tea each year. Fresh, mild, and slightly grassy, Shincha embodies the essence of Spring. The 2023 harvest was harvested between April 19th and May 4th, processed on May 9th, and arrived at ArtfulTea on May 19th, less than 30 days later. Due to favorable environmental conditions, the tea plants were harvested about five days earlier than a typical year, and had a lower yield. This makes the 2023 harvest more limited in quantity and even higher in quality than usual!
