Genmaicha is a traditional Japanese blend featuring green tea blended with roasted brown rice. This organic green tea has toasty, nutty, cereal-like notes mixed with a pleasant mild flavor, sweet yet slightly earthy. During the firing of the rice, kernels sometimes burst open, which lends them a popcorn-like appearance.

Cups Per Package

This luxury loose leaf tea is carefully blended and packaged by hand in a reusable tin or a resealable kraft bag. Our 4 oz. tin or kraft bag makes approximately 40 cups of tea. Our 8 oz. kraft bag makes approximately 80 cups.

Ingredients

Organic bancha green tea, organic roasted rice (Origin: Shizuoka, Japan)

Tasting Notes

Light and mild, with notes of rice and barley, a hint of minerality, and a clean finish.

How To Brew Genmaicha

Use 1 level teaspoon per 6 oz. water. Heat water until briskly steaming (not boiling). Steep for 1 to 2 minutes. For best taste, do not over steep.

We recommend preparing Genmaicha using a teapot, tea infuser, or tea filter. These brewing methods give the tea leaves enough room to expand as the tea steeps, resulting in a richer, more flavorful cup.

Genmaicha Caffeine Content

Green tea is low in caffeine.

Genmaicha Benefits

Green tea boosts energy, enhances mood, and helps with focus.

More About Genmaicha

Genmaicha means “brown rice tea” in Japanese. It is said that the blend was created as a way for tea-drinkers in Japan to stretch their tea supply by blending it with the more plentiful rice kernels. Genmaicha has a light, green-gold color and a slightly grain-like flavor. If you’ve ever had rice krispies cereal, you’ll be able to recognize something of the flavor and aroma of puffed rice in this tea. When blended with Sencha and Bancha, the toasted rice makes for a uniquely warming, satisfying tea that’s great on a cool afternoon.

Our Genmaicha is sourced from Shizuoka, Japan. The tea has a nutty, slightly sweet flavor, and is very warming and satisfying. Low in caffeine, this tea can be enjoyed either in the morning or the afternoon.
